In short

The Goa crocodile safari is a 2.5-hour boat trip through the Cumbarjua Canal, which links the Zuari and Mandovi rivers and is Goa's main mugger crocodile habitat. You also see mangroves and birds such as kingfishers, drongos, egrets and cormorants. Trips leave at 9 am, 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm; ₹4,000 per person including water, soft drinks and snacks.

Discover a different side of Goa on a trip through the backwaters of the Cumbarjua Canal. You'll see crocodiles and a variety of birds you won't easily spot by the sea — a perfect family outing for nature lovers.

Route

The 2.5-hour trip starts at 9:00 am from the Old Goa jetty, with a boat transfer to Cortalim jetty in the south (south pickup at 10:00 am). The boat travels up the Zuari River — at 92 km, Goa's largest river — into the Cumbarjua Canal, which connects the Zuari with the Mandovi.

Mangroves

Lines of mangroves along the banks shelter fish, molluscs and crabs, prevent soil erosion and protect the land from tidal surges.

Crocodile safari

Cumbarjua is Goa's main crocodile station, home to the broad-snouted mugger crocodile, which can grow to 4–5 metres. Muggers are skilled predators but are not known to attack humans.

Bird watching

Look out for white-breasted, pied and black-capped kingfishers, drongos, pariah kites, sandpipers, egrets, cormorants and terns.
